Elon Musk is expected in court in France today as part of an investigation into possible violations of European legislation by the platform X. The lack of moderation on the social network and the proliferation of fake content generated by artificial intelligence are among the key issues. Whether he appears or not, the Paris prosecutor’s office specifies that the investigation will continue. But what does the billionaire really risk? Fabrice Epelboin, a specialist in social networks and teacher at Sciences Po, spoke with Sud Radio in the morning.
Elon Musk summoned to appear before a French court. The billionaire CEO of the social network X has been summoned to an informal hearing by the Paris prosecutor’s office as part of an investigation into a possible lack of moderation on the social network and the proliferation of fake content generated by artificial intelligence. Whether he appears or not, the prosecutor’s office specifies that the investigation will continue.
“There is a high possibility that Elon Musk will be held in custody”
Fabrice Epelboin: “If Elon Musk comes to Paris, there is still a high chance that he will be held in custody. He is simply in the middle of a geopolitical showdown between the American power and Europe, which appears to involve, according to his claims, political and perfectly illegal censorship imposed on Twitter.”
“And then, according to Europeans, he is there because there may be some cooperation with the justice system. And he has implemented artificial intelligence that can strip a woman who has posted her photo.”
In a statement, the social network denounced the searches as “an abusive legal action” based on “political motives” and denied any wrongdoing. It stated that it would not be “intimidated”.
