President Donald Trump was in the West Wing of the White House on Good Friday when he learned that an American plane had been shot down over Iran. Two pilots were missing. Trump demanded an immediate rescue operation, despite the U.S. not having set foot in Iran since the Islamic Revolution in 1979. His advisors kept him out of real-time updates, fearing his impatience would be counterproductive. The first pilot was quickly recovered, but it took until Saturday night for the second pilot to be extracted in a high-risk operation. Trump finally went to bed after 2 a.m.

Six hours later, on Easter morning, Trump posted a threatening message to Tehran on his social network Truth Social, saying, “Open the damn Strait, you bastards, or you will live in Hell. YOU WILL SEE!” followed by “Glory to Allah.” This reckless move sparked outrage from Republican lawmakers and Christian leaders. When questioned by an advisor, Trump defended his actions, claiming he wanted to appear as unpredictable as possible to force the Iranians to negotiate.

Two days later, on April 8, Trump went even further in a new ultimatum, threatening to destroy the Iranian civilization if no agreement was reached.
