A man caused “multiple deaths and injuries” by opening fire in a residential area and then barricading himself in a supermarket before being eliminated, according to Kiev mayor Vitaly Klitschko.
The presumed perpetrator of a shooting that left at least five dead and ten injured on Saturday in a residential neighborhood of Kiev was killed, as indicated by several sources from the Ukrainian government. Earlier in the day, the mayor of Kiev had reported that gunfire had erupted in the Demyivka district, resulting in “multiple deaths and injuries.” “The shooter was killed during his arrest in Kiev,” the minister clarified on Telegram, stating that the man “had taken hostages and shot at the police” during his apprehension.
“So far, the death of five people has been confirmed,” said Volodymyr Zelensky on X, specifying that “10 people have been hospitalized with injuries and trauma” and that “four hostages have been rescued.”
Prosecutor General Rouslan Kravchenko stated in a press release that the suspect is “a 58-year-old man from Moscow.” He reportedly first opened fire on the street, “then barricaded himself inside a supermarket and took hostages.” “According to preliminary information, he used an automatic weapon. At the same time, a fire broke out in the apartment where the assailant was registered as a resident,” the press release also states. An attached photo shows the body of a person lying in a store aisle, covered in blood, with a gun at their feet.
