Over 1000 figures from the entertainment industry have signed an open letter calling for Israel to remain in the Eurovision contest, in response to international campaigns demanding its exclusion. Among the signatories are actors, musicians, and influential leaders in the cultural sector, who denounce the political instrumentalization of the event.
Initiated by the organization Creative Community for Peace, the letter emphasizes the unifying role of music and major international competitions. The signatories assert that Eurovision must remain a space for unity, not a tool for division or boycott.
The text also expresses strong opposition to calls to exclude Israel, deemed contrary to the spirit of the contest. Several personalities, including Helen Mirren, Mila Kunis, and Amy Schumer, along with major figures in the music industry like Gene Simmons, are among the supporters.
Some signatories have publicly stated that boycotting artists based on their nationality undermines the fundamental values of artistic creation. They emphasize that music should remain a universal language capable of transcending political and cultural divides.
Despite pressures, the European Broadcasting Union confirmed that the contest would proceed as planned, without excluding Israel. The country is set to participate with a multilingual song titled “Michelle” performed by Noam Bettan during the first semi-final scheduled for May.
