Iran has received “new proposals” from the United States for discussions to permanently end the war in the Middle East, the Supreme National Security Council announced on Saturday, April 18. “Iran is currently examining them and has not yet responded,” said the body, as quoted by the official Irna news agency, adding that Iranian negotiators would make “no compromises.” Follow our live coverage.

Emmanuel Macron announced that Sergeant-Chef Florian Montorio had been killed in the Deir-Kifa region of southern Lebanon following an attack on the peacekeepers. According to Tehran, the United States is violating its commitment and “continues to engage in acts of piracy.”
  • The Iranian Supreme Leader breaks his silence. The Iranian navy is ready to inflict “new defeats” on the enemy, Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei wrote on Telegram, a message published shortly after Tehran’s decision to reseal the Strait of Hormuz against the American blockade. “The valiant navy stands ready to make the enemy taste the bitterness of new defeats,” assured the leader, who has not been seen in public since his appointment, as the Iranian population has been without internet access for fifty days.
