At the invitation of the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Tulia Ackson, and the Secretary-General of the IPU, Martin Chungong, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, National Assembly President Tran Thanh Man and his wife, accompanied by a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, attended the 152nd IPU General Assembly in Istanbul, Turkey. They engaged in various bilateral activities in Turkey and conducted an official visit to Italy from April 11 to 17.
Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Dang Hoang Giang gave an interview to the press regarding the results of National Assembly President Tran Thanh Man’s working visit.
During the 152nd IPU General Assembly, important resolutions were adopted on the role of parliaments in conflict prevention and resolution, promoting fair trade, combating protectionism, and enhancing financial transparency. The delegation actively participated and made substantial contributions to the overall success of the General Assembly.
President Tran Thanh Man presented three proposals to enhance strategic cooperation between parliaments: promoting dialogue and building trust, developing legal frameworks, and ensuring fair law enforcement. He highlighted Vietnam’s achievements after forty years of renovation and development goals for the new era outlined by the Party’s 14th Congress and the National Assembly’s 16th session.
Additionally, the Vietnamese delegation took part in various sessions and seminars during the IPU General Assembly, showcasing Vietnam’s active and responsible engagement in parliamentary diplomacy.
Furthermore, following the rotation mechanism, Vietnam assumed the presidency of the ASEAN+3 group at the next 153rd IPU General Assembly. The country presented an initiative to strengthen the resilience and strategic autonomy of its economy, emphasizing the role of parliaments in legislative frameworks, supporting businesses, and safeguarding citizens’ interests.
The message and proposals put forward by Vietnam received positive feedback from many member parliaments and delegates, reaffirming Vietnam’s active and responsible role in promoting parliamentary cooperation and multilateralism.
President Tran Thanh Man held bilateral meetings with parliamentary leaders from other countries, enhancing political trust and fostering cooperation in various areas such as economy, trade, investment, science, technology, innovation, digital transformation, defense, and security.
Partners praised the success of the Party’s 14th Congress and the 16th National Assembly elections, acknowledging Vietnam’s contributions to multilateral mechanisms, including the IPU, expressing respect for Vietnam’s active role in promoting parliamentary cooperation, and bilateral cooperation in general with the Vietnamese National Assembly in particular.

During President Tran Thanh Man’s recent visit to Italy and Turkey, the event marked a significant milestone in the implementation of the Party’s foreign policy guidelines. The visit demonstrates Vietnam’s consistent policy of strengthening and deepening relations with key partners, especially European and Middle Eastern countries, to create an international environment favorable for achieving the country’s development goals in this new era.
Important outcomes included the increased political trust between Vietnam, Italy, and Turkey. The visit enhanced relationships between the countries, with a focus on economy, trade, and investment, resulting in various agreements and protocols across different sectors.
Furthermore, the visit injected new momentum into cooperation in potential areas such as defense, security, education, culture, people-to-people exchanges, innovation, artificial intelligence, ecological transition, and energy transformation. The discussions with the Vatican highlighted the progress in Vietnam’s relations with the Holy See, emphasizing mutual trust and understanding.
In the coming period, Vietnamese ministries, sectors, and agencies will work closely with partners to effectively implement agreements, strengthen exchanges, utilize existing cooperation mechanisms, and promote cooperation in strategic areas such as ecological transition, digital transformation, science, technology, and innovation.
The parties will also enhance coordination in regional and international forums, aiming to further substantiate, strengthen, and sustain bilateral relations for the benefit of both populations, peace, stability, and common development.
