The aggressive Guingamp players, with the very active Mafouta, missed the target twice (26th, 32nd). Between these two opportunities and while dueling with Sissoko, Sadik fell in the Breton area without the referee intervening (29th).
Mafouta hits the target
Sylvain Ripoll’s men took advantage to take the lead soon after. Following an escape on the left side, Kielt crossed perfectly for the inevitable Mafouta who didn’t hesitate to score his 13th goal of the season (0-1, 35th). This opening goal woke up the Pau players who were too timid offensively. After a quick play involving three players, Dong perfectly served Anziani at the penalty spot but Sidibe made a crucial block (40th). Kalulu also tried to start a revolt but his long-range attempt narrowly missed (45th).
Pau FC started the second half aggressively to quickly equalize, but after a good combination play with Touzghar and Glossoa, Anziani was denied by Ortola (46th). Anziani then turned into a provider on a free-kick and the Guingamp goalkeeper made a great save to prevent Meddah’s header from reaching the goal line (52nd).
The Pyrenean players were rewarded for their efforts when Dong perfectly connected with a cross from Glossoa to equalize (1-1, 54th). Around the hour mark, Guingamp could have taken the lead again if not for a good anticipation by Salles on a Sissoko cross. But Pau also had their chances, especially if Anziani had played a numerical advantage situation better (59th).
