Omaha police are currently unsure what prompted the actions of a woman who was shot dead by law enforcement in the Walmart parking lot on Tuesday, April 14. The incident took place in Omaha, Nebraska, in the United States, as reported by Associated Press.
According to Omaha Police Deputy Chief Scott Gray, the suspect initially approached a female shopper with a child in the store and allegedly threatened her with a knife stolen from one of the aisles. She then “took the child, essentially kidnapping him,” explained Scott Gray.
The woman instructed the shopper to walk in front of the shopping cart where the child was located. “They exited the store as if nothing was wrong, with no one suspecting anything,” the Omaha Police Deputy Chief described.
Child’s Life Not in Danger
Both women had a heated verbal exchange in the parking lot for several minutes before the police arrived. While officers were giving her instructions, the suspect began to “strike the child in the face with the knife,” Scott Gray explained. At least one officer then fired at the suspect, who died at the scene.
The child sustained injuries to the face and hand and was hospitalized, but is not in critical condition. The police are still unsure of the motives behind the actions of the deceased woman at this time. They have only stated that she and the customer with the child did not know each other.
