One person dead after stabbing in Cornelius, suspect arrested

The incident took place on Ruffner Drive, near Statesville Road, around 1 a.m.

CORNELIUS, N.C. – A person was fatally stabbed at an apartment complex in Cornelius early Wednesday morning, confirmed the police.

Cornelius Police responded to a reported assault at the Oakhurst Village apartment complex at 1 a.m. Demetri McGruder, 24, was pronounced dead on the scene, according to the Cornelius Police Department.

Makayla Hooks, 23, was arrested for the stabbing and is facing charges of second-degree murder. She is currently being held in Mecklenburg County jail awaiting a bond hearing.

No further details about the stabbing have been disclosed.
