President of the French Football Federation from 2005 to 2010, Jean-Pierre Escalettes has passed away at the age of 90 on Tuesday, April 14th.

A former president of the French Football Federation has passed away. The head of French football between 2005 and 2010, Jean-Pierre Escalettes died on Tuesday at the age of 90. He left his position following the 2010 World Cup, marked by the Knysna incident where the French players refused to train.

France won Euro 2016 during his tenure

“With deep emotion and great sadness, the French Football Federation pays tribute today to Jean-Pierre Escalettes,” reacted Philippe Diallo, the current president of the FFF, in a statement. “After giving so much to amateur football as a player, coach, leader, and then president of the Federal League of Amateur Football, Jean-Pierre Escalettes presided over the French Football Federation from 2005 to 2010.”

“During these five years, the FFF notably saw the French team reach the final of the 2006 World Cup and secured France’s designation as the host country for Euro 2016,” Philippe Diallo recalled about his predecessor’s journey.

A part-time English professor, Jean-Pierre Escalettes also led the football district of Dordogne and the New Aquitaine league. “Putting mutual respect as the cardinal virtue, he tirelessly worked to bring professional football and amateur football closer together, always aiming to preserve the unity and wealth of our French model,” Diallo further praised. “Deeply devoted to the values of sports, he always put volunteers, educators, and licensees at the heart of his actions, ensuring to stay close to the field.”
