At the championships in France last weekend, Silvio Catanoso, a weightlifter from Gers, secured his dominance by claiming a fifth consecutive gold medal in the masters category. Competing in the 65-69 age group and under 79 kg, he lifted 80 kg in the snatch and 105 kg in the clean and jerk, totaling 185 kg. Despite his success, his shoes didn’t survive the competition, as they gave out just in time. On the podium, Catanoso topped Kevin Bouly from Reims and Roland Chavigny from Tours. This victory holds special significance for the Auscitain as he had come to Narbonne specifically for the gold. Looking ahead, Catanoso is preparing to move up to the 85 kg category and is confident in his ability to compete against stronger opponents. This achievement not only boosts his confidence but also sets the stage for the upcoming European Masters Championships in Belgium in June.
