The United States has praised the Nigerian government for its dedication to speeding up trials of suspects involved in terrorism and other related crimes. The US applauded Nigerian authorities for convicting 386 Islamist militants, as stated in a Sunday announcement by Massad Boulos, Senior Advisor to the US President on Arab and African Affairs.

The US views this as a significant step towards ensuring accountability and justice. Boulos emphasized the importance of timely and transparent legal processes in combating extremism and building trust in the judicial system. He also highlighted the importance of upholding the rule of law for the safety and stability of Nigerians.

Recently, a Federal High Court in Abuja handed down prison sentences ranging from 10 to 40 years to individuals associated with Boko Haram and its splinter groups. Some convicts were also ordered to undergo rehabilitation and de-radicalization. Nigeria continues to face ongoing terrorism threats, especially in the North-East, with authorities working to prosecute suspects through special court sessions established within the Federal High Court.

These trials, overseen by the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, are part of a broader effort to expedite terrorism-related cases and enhance accountability.
