Sinner new king. The Italian wins the Monte-Carlo Masters 1000 by defeating defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in the final on Sunday (7-6, 6-3). It’s a double win for Sinner as he regains the world number 1 spot.
On Sunday, a new classic was expected in the first “Sincaraz” showdown of the season. In Monte-Carlo, swept by the wind, the 2026 final was mainly a survival challenge.
44 unforced errors in the first set
In this chaos, Sinner resisted the best. Winning 7-6(5), 6-3, the Italian now has four consecutive Masters 1000 titles after Paris, Indian Wells, and Miami. A further step in his current dominance.
The first set, plagued with 44 unforced errors (23 for Alcaraz, 21 for Sinner), drifted aimlessly. A logical tie-break, almost gifted, ended with a double fault from Alcaraz. The Spaniard had opportunities but failed to capitalize. At 3-1 in the second set, he missed his chance. Sinner, on the other hand, tightened his game at the right moment.
