The weekend is not as peaceful as expected. Less than a day after the start of the short ceasefire agreed upon by Russia and Ukraine, on the occasion of Orthodox Easter, Kiev accused Moscow of violating the truce nearly 2,300 times on Saturday, April 11.

“At 7 o’clock [6 o’clock in Paris], 2,299 ceasefire violations were recorded”, indicated the Ukrainian military in a report posted on Facebook. It reported “28 enemy assaults, 479 shelling, 747 drone strikes (‘Lancet’, ‘Molniya’), and 1,045 FPV drone strikes”. The Kremlin had announced on Thursday that the ceasefire would start on Saturday at 4 p.m. (local time) and last until the end of Sunday, a period of 32 hours. Volodymyr Zelensky had warned earlier that Ukraine would respond “tit for tat” to any Russian violation of the ceasefire.

Meanwhile, the Russian Ministry of Defense accused the Ukrainian forces on Sunday of violating the ceasefire 1,971 times between Saturday 4 p.m. and Sunday 8 a.m. (local time), according to the Tass news agency. In the Russian region of Kursk, near the Ukrainian border, the governor accused Kiev of violating the truce by attacking a gas station with a drone in the town of Lgov, injuring three people including a child. A similar ceasefire had been announced in Ukraine in April 2025, but both sides had already accused each other of violating it numerous times.
