In 2026, a box set with 55 titles titled “30 years with you” will be released for Jérôme and Emily Ortet, a talented musician couple based in Morteaux-Couliboeuf, near Falaise in Calvados, who were destined to meet.
Accordion, a family instrument Jérôme Ortet: “My father was an accordionist. I started playing the accordion at 9 and a half. My uncle, Patrick Ortet, was a music teacher in Sées; I spent 18 months practicing non-stop with him before continuing with Mrs. Laigre in Argentan. At 17, I received an excellence award from the Accordion Club of France.”
Then, it continued to unfold; 2 years of lessons with Henry Lemarchand; then, at 19, I joined the conservatory of the XIIe arrondissement in Paris with Max Bonney. I received the Joe Rossi award in 1996, presented by Marcel Azzola. That year, I met Emily.
Organ, piano, and music history Emily Ortet: “At 8 and a half, I discovered the keyboard with electronic organ lessons in La Clé de Sol, Flers. It was friends of my parents, who were used to going to dances, who offered me to come and play some music for their anniversary. It was word of mouth that made me continue. An excellence award in organ at 11 and a half and, at 15, the piano. At 18, I entered the conservatory where I obtained an award in music history. And I met Jérôme.”
One day, a phone call… Jérôme had the habit of playing on weekends in a small group, Modesty. He called me to join the band. The group split and we found ourselves together. We formed a new group, OJO (Orchestre Jérôme Ortet), but most of the time it was just the two of us. Today we offer dance evenings and participate as musicians in dance cruises.
Making people dance… Very quickly, the passion for making people dance marked the group.
“In 2014, we were contacted to be part of a show, 1, 2, 3, musette, broadcast on about thirty channels, but we were quickly encouraged to compose, which we didn’t allow ourselves to do before. Today we have 70 tracks, including about thirty featured on the latest box set, ’30 years with you’.”
