A first council meeting devoted to the budget orientation debate, in order to mobilize and inform new elected officials about the work to be done before the elections, followed by a second one to validate the 2026 budget: the term started off with a bang in Horgues, with the approval of around 300,000 to 350,000 euros worth of projects, without the need for borrowing, as grants and self-financing were deemed sufficient. It should also be noted that the municipality decided not to renew the contract of municipal employees (saving around 100,000 euros) and to hire a company for the town’s cleaning services, a move that seems to have won over Horgues’ elected officials. Among the various projects and works to be carried out: the purchase of land near the stadium, awaiting future development ideas (40,000 euros excluding tax), the acquisition of urban furniture (30,000 euros), the switch to LED lighting for the stadium (60,000 euros) after the village’s switch which resulted in significant savings, work on the recently cleaned municipal shed (30,000 euros), and work on the worn-out roof of the town hall (around 50,000 euros). And then, there is an investment that won’t cost the municipality much: the illumination of the church steeple. Explanation: the municipality received the pleasant surprise of a bequest from a resident, who left Horgues a sum of 150,000 euros on the condition that it be used for maintaining the church. Over four projects spread out over four years, the municipality will thus fulfill the wishes of Mrs. Élise; it will be the steeple that will benefit from the initial illuminations.
