A sequence on March 4 on Tout beau, tout neuf (TBT9) sparked a lively exchange around Matthieu Delormeau. The columnist was targeted by a video posted on social media by the influencer Jazz Correia, based in Dubai, after his critical comments on French influencers living in the emirate and on the local political system.
A controversy surrounding Dubai influencers
During the TBT9 show broadcast on March 4 on W9, Cyril Hanouna addressed his columnist Matthieu Delormeau to inform him that he was at the center of a controversy: “It’s crazy what’s happening around you.”
Gilles Verdez then explained the origin of the controversy. Several French influencers based in Dubai recently requested assistance from France to be repatriated following the Iran attack. This was a topic on which Matthieu Delormeau had expressed his opinion in a previous show.
According to Gilles Verdez, the columnist had notably stated that he did not appreciate this country, even going as far as mentioning “a dictatorship.” These comments did not sit well with some influencers living there.
The video by Jazz Correia
Among the reactions, Gilles Verdez mentioned a video published by Jazz Correia, a former reality TV contestant turned influencer in Dubai.
In the clip aired on the show, she said: “I love Dubai so much, and I don’t like the look of certain public figures in France, so I will personally take care of retrieving every piece of video where you criticize Dubai.”
She continued by directly targeting those who criticize the emirate after visiting it. “I will give these videos to my friends in the government here, so next time they come for their holidays, they will be travel-banned when they arrive, they will be in trouble,” she said, denouncing what she called “hypocrisy.”
The response from Matthieu Delormeau
In response to these statements, Matthieu Delormeau claimed to be discovering the video live. “She is saying she will tell everyone and the authorities there that if I arrive there as a gay person, I will have problems,” he stated.
The columnist then mentioned the possibility of legal action in France, pointing out the threats made by the influencer: “Threats are totally forbidden. I don’t like to clog up the courts, but indeed playing with something you shouldn’t play with.”
He added, “It’s a criminal court. Threats in France are serious. They are taken extremely seriously,” before directly addressing Jazz Correia, “My darling, stay in Dubai because if you come to France, click-clack, with me,” he said, mimicking handcuffs on his wrists.
A debate that goes beyond a simple controversy
The sequence highlights the recurring tensions between certain French media figures and influencers based in Dubai, often at the center of debates on social media and in the media.
Between political criticism, media rivalries, and viral reactions on the internet, this confrontation around Matthieu Delormeau triggered a reaction online, leading to numerous discussions on the situation in Dubai and opinions on the comments of the columnist and the influencer.
