President Donald Trump is expected to hold a news conference with military leaders on Monday as the deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz approaches. The conference is set for 1 p.m. ET.

Trump has given Tehran a deadline that ends on Monday night Washington time, warning that if no agreement is reached to reopen the strait, the U.S. would target Iran’s power plants and other infrastructure, potentially setting the country back to the “stone ages.”

In response, Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency has stated that Tehran rejected a recent ceasefire proposal and is seeking a permanent end to the conflict. The agency has conveyed this message to the U.S. through Pakistan, a key mediator.

Mojtaba Ferdousi Pour, head of the Iranian diplomatic mission in Cairo, emphasized, “We will only accept an end to the war with guarantees that we will not be attacked again.”

Trump issued a stern warning to Iran, stating that they need to submit and comply. He hinted at severe consequences if they do not cooperate, suggesting that they could lose essential infrastructure like bridges and power plants.

In the midst of this tension, Israel and the United States have launched a series of attacks on Iran, resulting in the deaths of more than 25 people. In retaliation, Iran has reportedly fired missiles at Israel and its Gulf Arab neighbors.
