“Dimanche en politique” focuses on intercommunalities. On March 15 and 22, voters not only elected mayors but also community advisors. These advisors are currently choosing the presidents of the intercommunalities for the next 6 years. Despite being relatively unknown, these elections are crucial for the daily lives of residents. Intercommunalities manage key local strategic areas such as the economy, transportation, ecological transition, culture, sports, and early childhood. The goal for municipalities is to come together. The Hauts-de-France region has 87 out of the 1252 intercommunalities in France. Their budget is larger than that of the municipalities, reaching 66 billion euros in 2024. With our guests, we will explore the purpose of these intercommunalities as the NOTRe law aimed to simplify the territorial complexity. What are their responsibilities? What is left for the municipalities? How effective are they? What about taxation? What are the prevailing forces in the Hauts-de-France region?
