Two US pilots who were shot down in Iran were rescued by American forces. Iran claims to have “destroyed” an American aircraft during search operations. The second American pilot whose plane crashed in Iran was also rescued by the US military and is now “safe and sound,” announced Donald Trump on Sunday.

“In the past few hours, the US military has conducted one of the boldest search and rescue operations in US history to assist one of our amazing crew members, who is also a highly respected colonel, and I am delighted to announce that he is now SAFE AND SOUND!” wrote the US president on his Truth Social network.

He added that the soldier was injured and that the rescue operation involved “dozens of aircraft.”

According to the Wall Street Journal, the colonel was injured during his ejection on Friday. Before being rescued by special forces commandos who had managed to fend off the Iranians searching for him, he reportedly made a “bold move” to reunite with his comrades.

On the other hand, the Tasnim news agency, citing the Revolutionary Guards, stated that an American aircraft participating in search operations had been “destroyed,” without further details. Washington did not immediately react.

“An American enemy aircraft searching for the pilot of a shot-down fighter jet was destroyed by fighters of Islam in the southern region of Isfahan,” wrote Tasnim, without confirming Trump’s announcement that the soldier had been rescued.

Since the start of the war, no American soldiers have been killed or captured on Iranian soil, but 13 have died in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq.

On the 37th day of the war triggered on February 28 by an Israeli-American offensive against Iran, the latter once again attacked the Gulf countries and Israel on Sunday, on the eve of the expiration of a 48-hour ultimatum given by Donald Trump to Tehran to reach an agreement or reopen the strategic Strait of Hormuz, under the threat of “unleashing hell.”
