An agriculteur from CR 47 was summoned to the Monflanquin gendarmerie on Friday, April 3rd to be questioned about damages committed in Bordeaux in 2024. According to Josée Pérez, president of the union, this is “political harassment.”
Sometimes, weeks seem to echo each other. Just a few days apart, the Rural Coordination (CR) 47 left the courtroom for the corridors of the gendarmerie. On March 26th and 27th, they and several members appeared before the Agen Court of Appeal for various acts of degradation, illegal waste disposal, or acts of intimidation against public officials. These incidents were part of the major agricultural protests in 2024.
This Friday, April 3rd, there was a change in scenery. An agricultural union member was summoned to the Monflanquin gendarmerie (Lot-et-Garonne) due to events related to the 2024 demonstrations, this time for incidents in Bordeaux. On March 11th of that year, approximately 300 CR farmers gathered in front of the regional council building in the Mériadeck district in Bordeaux, dumping manure and tires.
The farmer questioned on Friday is suspected of involvement in these events. In late 2024, two CR 47 members had already been summoned to the Bordeaux police station for questioning, but they did not attend. A “support committee” of about ten union members was present outside the Monflanquin gendarmerie. The farmer chose to remain silent in front of the gendarmes, invoking their right to silence.
The union leader is particularly concerned about repeated summons before authorities or the judiciary. He sees it as an act of “political and judicial harassment” and criticizes the state’s lack of support for farmers. The investigation is ongoing, and a report will be sent to the Bordeaux prosecutor’s office. For now, it is uncertain whether the farmer will face legal action in the future. Another farmer from Lot-et-Garonne may also be questioned for incidents on the same day in Bordeaux, near the Mirror of Water.
