Bombings and contradictory injunctions continue in the Middle East as the war triggered by Israel and the United States on February 28th enters its fifth week. On the same day, Sunday, March 29th, the White House tenant, Donald Trump, praised the progress of “direct and indirect talks” with Iran and hinted that the United States is considering invading the Kharg Island.

Speaking to reporters on Air Force One on his return to Washington after a weekend in Florida, the former real estate magnate stated that Iran had agreed to let twenty additional oil tankers pass through the Strait of Hormuz starting from Monday. A “tribute” and a “sign of respect,” according to the initiator of hostilities.

Invasion of Kharg Island on Hold

Donald Trump’s tone was different in an interview with the Financial Times broadcast on the same evening. “Maybe we will take over Kharg Island, maybe not. We have many options,” said the far-right elected official. “I don’t think they have any defenses. We could take it very easily.” Kharg Island in the northern Persian Gulf is home to Iran’s largest oil terminal and accounts for about 90% of its crude oil exports.

Several hundred special forces members have arrived in the region, in addition to the thousands of Marines and paratroopers from the US military already deployed on site. The Wall Street Journal reports that the Republican president is considering a military operation to recover nearly 454 kg of Iranian uranium. According to the newspaper, this mission would involve the presence of US forces on Iranian territory for at least several days.

Bombardments Across the Region

In Iranian territory, missiles continue to rain down. Tehran suffered another large-scale attack coordinated between Tel Aviv and Washington on Sunday, March 29th. The headquarters of the Al Araby TV channel, owned by a Qatari company, was bombed, causing ten injuries. The port of Bandar Khamir in southern Iran, near the Strait of Hormuz, also faced an attack that resulted in at least five deaths, according to Iranian state media.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the UN’s nuclear watchdog, confirmed that the heavy-water complex in Khondab (Markazi province) is now out of service after being severely damaged last Friday. Iran retaliated on Sunday with a series of ballistic missile strikes against White House allies.

While no injuries were reported, missile fragments caused a fire in an industrial area in southern Israel. Saudi Arabia, on the other hand, announced that it intercepted ten drones.

In Lebanon, Death of a Peacekeeper and Tributes to Assassinated Journalists

In Lebanon, the death of a peacekeeper from the local UN Interim Force, the UNIFIL, is becoming clearer. Indonesia announced on Monday, March 30th, that the soldier killed was one of their citizens. He was a victim of “indirect artillery fire near the position of the Indonesian contingent of UNIFIL, near Adchit Al Qusayr on March 29, 2026,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed. Jakarta “expresses its deepest condolences.” The origin of the projectiles has not been determined.

Hundreds of civilians also gathered in Beirut on Sunday to pay tribute to three Lebanese journalists assassinated by the Israeli army over the weekend. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu continues his colonial project, ordering occupying forces to extend their territorial control to southern Lebanon.

Tel Aviv assumes it is “determined to fundamentally change the situation” at the border, meaning to expand the occupied zone. Lebanon’s President Joseph Aoun continues to denounce Israel’s aggression as “a dangerous escalation and violation of Lebanese sovereignty” represented by the destruction of bridges. an ambulance driver was also killed in bombings in Bint Jbeil in southern Lebanon, confirmed by the World Health Organization, bringing the total number of Lebanese health professionals killed in less than a month to 52.

Second School Bombarded by the United States in Iran

While the fighting continues, potential war crimes committed in the Middle East are still being documented. The New York Times revealed in an investigation published on Sunday that an untested US ballistic missile was used from the launch of the war. Worse, this weapon hit a gymnasium and an adjacent elementary school near a military facility in southern Iran. A complex of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) is nearby.

The bombing, like others at the same time in the nearby city of Lamerd, resulted in at least 21 deaths. This deadly attack reportedly occurred on the same day as the bombing of the girls’ school in Minab, hundreds of kilometers away, with a Tomahawk cruise missile. In the case of Lamerd, journalists from the New York Times and ammunition experts have “found that the characteristics of the weapon, the explosions, and the damage correspond to a short-range ballistic missile called the Precision Strike Missile, designed to explode just above its target and project small tungsten pellets.”
