After Indian Wells, world No. 2 Jannik Sinner achieved the “Sunshine double” by winning the Miami Masters 1000 for the second time on Sunday.
Sinner defeated Czech player Jiri Lehecka 6-4, 6-4 after a match that was delayed and then interrupted for 1 hour and 30 minutes by rain.
The 24-year-old Italian is the first ATP player to achieve the “Sunshine double” since Roger Federer in 2017, and notably did so without dropping a set in either tournament.
Former world No. 1 Sinner secured his 7th Masters 1000 title, the third in a row after Paris at the end of 2025 and Indian Wells two weeks ago, extending his streak to 34 consecutive sets won in tournaments of this caliber.
Rain in Miami caused the match to be delayed and then halted for about 1 hour and 30 minutes at the start of the second set.
Despite the disruptions, Sinner continued to dominate the match, though he missed a few opportunities to close it out sooner (converting two breaks out of eleven chances).
Jiri Lehecka, ranked 22nd in the world, was competing in his first final at this level at the age of 24, aiming to follow in the footsteps of his compatriot Jakub Mensik.
Despite the loss, Lehecka’s impressive tournament performance will see him rise to a career-high ranking of 14th in the world on Monday.
